Need advice for parastomal hernia belt - stoma bulges out

This topic is about finding the right hernia support belt for someone with an ileostomy and a parastomal hernia, which causes the stoma to bulge. The person is experiencing discomfort with their current belt and is looking for advice and experiences from others.

Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

1. The Stealth Belt, which is a vertical style, is favored by many because it supports the hernia area while also holding and concealing the pouch. It allows for easy adjustment of tightness and does not increase stoma protrusion.

2. For those using the Nu-Hope belt:
- Try putting it on while lying down to flatten the hernia first.
- Some find it uncomfortable and it may dig into the abdomen, so it might be best right after changing the appliance.
- One user finds success by wearing it very tight and using the Nu-Hope prolapse strap, owning both 4-inch and 7-inch-wide versions.

3. Belts without a hole might be recommended because the hernia can bulge through the opening. One user abandoned such a belt and opted for surgical repair instead.

4. Other brands and products to consider:
- Safe ’n Simple Ostomy Security Belt is used occasionally and does not impact the stoma.
- Coloplast Hernia Belt is yet to be tested by one user.
- PouchWear vertical belt, wrap, and bag cover were reported as uncomfortable and not recommended.
- A knock-off horizontal Stealth Belt from the UK was preferred over Nu-Hope, leading the user to order the official Stealth Belt.
- OstomySecrets Wrap has two built-in pockets to hold the pouch, offering gentle support and comfort for daily wear.

5. Supportive underwear or high-rise, snug garments can help flatten the hernia and reduce self-consciousness, though they may cause pancaking if the output is thick.

6. An ostomy wrap can provide light support and keep the bag secure without putting pressure on the stoma, with adjustable tightness.

7. Surgery is an option for those considering parastomal hernia repair, sometimes alongside prolapse repair or "Barbie butt" closure. It's noted that living with the hernia isn't necessary if other measures don't work.
