Starting a Support Group in Your Hometown

Starting an ostomy support group in your hometown can be a rewarding way to connect with others who share similar experiences. If you're feeling the urge to create such a group but aren't sure where to start, here are some helpful steps and insights to guide you:

1. Reach out to the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) for guidance. They can provide valuable resources and support for starting a new group. You can contact their ASG & Membership Coordinator at 800-826-0826 or explore their resources for new Affiliated Support Groups (ASGs) on their website.

2. Find a suitable meeting space. Securing a venue is a crucial first step. Once you have a location, you can plan for additional needs like chairs, tables, pamphlets, and any presentation equipment you might require.

3. Connect with existing ostomy support groups in nearby areas. Learning from others who have already established groups can offer insights into what has worked well and what challenges to avoid. This can be an invaluable resource as you set up your own group.
