Best Paper Towels

This topic is all about finding the softest and most skin-friendly paper towels and alternatives for ostomy care. It's important to use gentle materials to ensure comfort and prevent irritation around the stoma. Here are some helpful tips and insights shared by others:

- Viva Signature Cloth paper towels are highly recommended for their softness and effectiveness in cleaning and drying the stoma area. Be sure to choose the Signature Cloth variety, not the Multi-Surface Cloth.

- Kleenex Hand Towels are another soft option. One person mentioned cutting each towel into nine squares for convenience. These can be found at Target.

- Chuck cloths, also known as disposable "Chucks," can be cut into 2-inch squares and used with warm water for cleaning. Afterward, a small eyelash dryer can be used to dry the area.

- Gauze is a versatile option:
1. Use 1-inch double-layer gauze squares for drying after a shower or during a bag change.
2. Regular gauze with saline can be used for cleansing, followed by a hair dryer on low/warm to dry the bag and help Coloplast wafers adhere.

- For wiping the pouch outlet, plain tissues without aloe are recommended. Tightly rolled toilet tissue can be used to wick water from a rinsed pouch.

- Wipes can be a gentle option:
1. Sensitive baby wipes or Sam’s Club “flushable” wipes (alcohol-free) are gentle and have not caused sticking issues for some users.
2. Be cautious with non-ostomy wipes, as they may leave residue that affects wafer adhesion. Ostomy-specific water-only wipes are considered the safest choice.

- Disposable soft cloths available in pharmacy home-care sections offer another soft, non-linting option.

- For drying after showering or rinsing, you can wrap a small towel around the pouch, blot firmly with a bath towel, or use a warm hair dryer for less than a minute for instant dryness.

These tips can help make ostomy care more comfortable and effective, ensuring that the skin around the stoma remains healthy and irritation-free.
