OH DEAR!.

Oh dear! What can the matter be?
I no longer go to the lavatory
like I always used to do
as and when I need to poo.

For now I have a stoma, where
all my poo comes out from there
so, I don’t need to use a loo
in the way that I used to.

Now, there’s a bag upon my tum
replacing my malfunctioning bum,
which catches all my output so,
I don’t need a loo to go.

As I don’t need a static loo
many benefits accrue,
whereby I might poo anywhere
without a doubt or anxious care.

Before my stoma, I confess
that I have been in great distress
when my incontinence would show
in ways where everyone would know.

I used to think a stoma might
be a blight, or not quite right,
and I would worry about it
as a brand new way to shit.

But now I can feel free at last
with all that crap put in my past,
for when my poo drops in a bag
I do not view it as a drag.

My stoma is my ‘normal’ now,
and I am glad that I’ve sussed how
to make this new life work for me
so life’s as good as it might be.

I did enjoy your many a stanza

It was a cleverness bonanza

I quite liked your poo and loo exposition

I am also in a state of transition

Yours is for poo, mine is for pee

In a way, the bags set us free

Yes, it can be messy and complicated

But I prefer this over chemo and medicated.

If you ever feel you look silly and dumb

You can celebrate that you no longer need to wipe your bum

My biggest issue is forgetting to close the bag faucet. And at least weekly I swap it out and toss it.

I take part in these forums almost every day. They and the people that contribute to them have made all the difference in my having the courage to live a normal life with an ileostomy. The people here are marvelous and come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Hearing what others have lived through has really helped me put my own experience in perspective. I highly recommend all ostomates and caretakers of ostomates to come join us.
