Prostate Biopsy Post-Rectum Removal: Any Experiences?

This topic is about how a prostate biopsy is performed for someone who has had their rectum removed. A person with an ostomy is curious if others have experienced this and how the procedure was done.

Here are some helpful insights and advice:

- A WebMD overview provides information on several standard biopsy techniques, which can be a useful starting point for understanding the procedure.

- A member shared their personal experience of having two prostate biopsies after rectum removal:
1. The procedure was done in an operating room.
2. Urologists have three possible ways to access the prostate:
- Transurethral, which is through the penis.
- Perineal, which is through the area between the testicles and the former rectal site.
- Transabdominal, which is through the stomach. This method is the most challenging and requires a gastroenterologist.
3. Their most recent biopsy was in September, and the recovery process was smooth and uneventful.
