15 Years with My Ostomy: A Journey of Challenges and Triumphs

This topic is about a person celebrating 15 years of living with an ostomy, which she has named "Rose Budd." Her journey began with an unexpected medical emergency that resulted in a permanent stoma and pouch. Initially, she was hopeful it would be temporary, but upon learning it was permanent, she faced severe depression and even considered ending her life. The sight of her infant son gave her a reason to keep going, and with the support of her husband, friends, and the ostomy community, she gradually accepted her new reality.

Over time, she found that living with an ostomy freed her from constant pain and allowed her to enjoy normal activities, travel, and parenting without relying on steroids. She discovered a supportive network that helped her through marital challenges and body-image concerns. Now, she sees her ostomy as a second chance at life and encourages others to embrace a positive outlook.

Here are some helpful insights:

1. Shift your mindset from "woe is me" to "WHOAH! It’s ME!" to motivate yourself daily.
2. Embrace life actively rather than just enduring it.
