Cavilon Spray - A Life-Changing Solution for Skin Protection

This topic is about the transformative impact of using Cavilon No-Sting Barrier Spray for ostomy skin care. After struggling with severe skin irritation and pain due to stool leakage for four years, someone found relief by using this spray. It creates a protective film around the stoma that lasts up to 72 hours, effectively preventing irritation. After just a month of use, their skin problems and pain were completely resolved. Here are some helpful tips and insights for using Cavilon Spray:

1. You can often get Cavilon products for free. In the UK and many other places, stoma nurses, doctors, and supply companies can include Cavilon Spray, Barrier Wipes, and Barrier Sticks in your regular ostomy orders, so buying them on Amazon might not be necessary.

2. For application:
- If your skin is sore, dust it with aloe-vera powder, remove the excess, and then spray Cavilon to seal it.
- Using Cavilon Sticks, which are wipes on a foam tip, over the entire wafer area can add extra tackiness. Let it dry until it feels tacky before applying the pouch.
- To prevent leaks and pancaking, finish with two adhesive extension strips at the top and bottom of the flange.

3. Cavilon Spray and Wipes are alcohol-free, so they are safe even if they accidentally touch the stoma. The protective film should extend right up to and slightly onto the stoma edge.

4. There are similar products available:
- LBF Barrier Wipes & Spray from Clinimed/Trio offer the same benefits, and some users prefer their durability. You can ask your stoma nurse for samples.
- Other alcohol-free alternatives include Coloplast Brava Skin Barrier Spray and DermaRite Sting-Free Skin Prep & Protectant.

5. A study by 3M highlights the superior performance of Cavilon compared to other skin barriers.

6. For broken skin, try the layering or "crusting" technique: spray the barrier, apply ostomy powder, spray again, allow it to dry fully, and then attach the pouch for maximum protection and adhesion.
