So my running top from the ileostomy and internal pouch charity arrived, ready for doing the Sheffield 10K next year. Time to start training. No getting out of it now 😬

I'm aiming to just complete it this time; next time I'll go for time 😄

Do us proud, Mr. B!

Yeah wow, this site helped so much, I mean really who do you know with this infliction? No one, felt so alone and disgusted by myself every turn.
But it ended up being so damn strengthening, I got fucking moving, really only another choice.
That's

Truth
I was damaged by a procedure and ended waking with this, I understand all of you.. perhaps you had to have it, I get it.. doesn't matter either way.
Just wanted to share that

Haha, I have plenty of time. It's September next year, but after not doing much for 18 months, I'm going to have to build up my fitness over the next 12 months.

Enjoy....if you're using PT to help you get ready, make sure they're very experienced, as I've known some who have done a basic course give poor advice, especially to people with ostomies.

Haha, no I'm just going to start off doing a couple of k and build up over the next 11 1/2 months.

Not sprints, just a slow jog. I'm aiming for about an hour; I'd be happy with that.

This is so inspiring! Sheesh, I can barely shower and walk right now, so this is giving me hope for the future!

How long post-op? I had my original ileostomy 12 months ago and the Ken butt surgery a couple of months ago.

Three weeks! Before the surgery, I enjoyed walking quite a bit, so I've been going outside (+up/down 3 flights of stairs) when I feel the energy. How about you?

And you're already doing three flights of stairs! That's good going!

12 months for the ileostomy and 2 months for the Ken bum surgery.

Thank you so much! I'm curious about your hopes/plans for training for the 10K?

See how far I can go at first, then build that up to 10k and then shorten the time. I am aiming for about 50 minutes to an hour when I do the event.

That is fantastic! Lots of time to get ready, but it's wise to start sooner rather than later and build up strength and stamina slowly. I'm very impressed.

Cool, I like that very relaxed and achievable - rooting for you!

This is very inspiring! Hubz has added one lap per day at an indoor walking track (the temperature was 102°F here in Phoenix, Arizona), and will hit the two-mile mark tomorrow! He was on the bed or living room floor for almost nine months before surgery on August 11, so he's thrilled to reach this milestone! Your plans are so inspiring and will encourage so many to keep moving forward, even if it's a step at a time!

Well done. Don't forget to add Poop Stops along the way. Keep on keeping on, my friend.

Good for you! I was planning on trying the Boston DAV 5K before the unexpected surgery.

I found my stamina much lower while training. I can do a light jog for a couple of miles, but I notice a loss of energy. I take more than water with me. I usually carry a light backpack with water and energy bars.

Also, my go bag just in case it's a shit show😎

Spot on, Ben. I went to two different PTs for two years and got little results. I went to a PT specialist for incontinence and pelvic issues. In 18 months, I "graduated." I hiked the Smokies and Shenandoah last month. Cross two off my bucket list.

Are you using a hydration mix? With just water, I got weak and tired daily. I developed bilateral kidney stones. Many mixes are on the market. I use 1/3 Gatorade to 2/3 H2O. No more issues.

Yesterday I went for a walk, and by the end of the day, I reached 1,760 steps, which is the most since I've come home! Hopefully, eventually, I can increase to 7,000–10,000; I just wanted to share. 🤗

Good for you.  If you're like me, putting something on a calendar will make it happen.  Otherwise, it's "I'll do it next year".

Keep us posted
