Seeking New Products for Better Control & Regulation

This topic is about exploring new ostomy products that might offer better control and regulation for those with a stoma, particularly focusing on stoma caps and other options. After using the same pouching system for a decade, someone is curious about newer products and whether they provide improved management of output. Here's some advice and insights shared by others:

1. Stoma Cap Basics
- A stoma cap is a small, flat cover, not to be confused with a mini-bag. It's typically used after irrigation or for short activities like swimming.
- Most stoma caps come with a charcoal filter to help vent gas. However, if you're using a one-piece model, you might need to remove it if gas builds up.
- Stoma caps are best suited for those who irrigate, as others might face challenges with unpredictable output or trapped gas.

2. Hollister Products
- Hollister stoma caps are no longer available.
- Alternatives include:
- Hollister 82402 one-piece disposable mini pouch (also 82400), which users say stays above the thigh and can be requested as a free sample.
- Hollister New Image two-piece system with a drainable Mini-Pouch. This option is very small when empty, has a filter that can be "burped," and offers a middle ground between a full pouch and a true cap.

3. Coloplast Products
- One user mentions that Coloplast only offers a one-piece stoma cap without a venting option, meaning it must be removed to release gas.
- Another user successfully uses a Coloplast two-piece stoma cap, wearing it for up to 2½ days and maintaining bowel control for up to 48 hours after irrigation.

4. Other Manufacturers & Systems
- Marlen Odor-Ban Ileostomy Pouch: This product is praised for its opaque, odor-resistant liner, durability, and security during activities like swimming or using a hot tub. It uses a faceplate, O-ring, and adhesive disk.
- Cymed: Known for its lightweight systems and willingness to provide free samples.

5. Product Information Resources
- A website, http://www.ostomysuppliesinfo.com, is suggested for grouping products and reviews.
- Amazon also offers some user reviews, though the selection is limited.
