Reducing Ostomy Bag Gas - Any Tips?

The topic is about finding ways to prevent an ostomy pouch from filling up with gas, which can make it noticeable under tight clothing. The person seeking advice has tried changing their diet and using over-the-counter products like Gas-X, but these have only helped a little. They are looking for more effective strategies to keep the pouch flat, especially in public.

Here are some suggestions and insights shared by others:

1. Consider using drainable pouches with built-in gas and odor filters. Many people find these filters help release gas gradually without any smell. However, be aware that some filters might lose their effectiveness over time.

2. Try to empty the pouch more frequently before it gets too full. Keeping it light can help prevent it from ballooning.

3. You might want to try "burping" the pouch. This involves standing or sitting so that the output moves to the bottom, holding the tail upright, and then carefully opening the clip or Velcro just a little to let the gas escape. It's best to do this in a restroom or private area.

4. Take a closer look at your diet. Some foods and drinks are known to produce more gas. You can find detailed lists of these in previous discussions on diet and general problems.

5. Some people have heard that eating marshmallows before meals might reduce gas. This tip is based on personal anecdotes and hasn't been tested by those who shared it, but it might be worth trying.
