Need help thickening my acidic ostomy liquid!

This topic is about finding ways to thicken watery and acidic ostomy output. If you're dealing with this issue, here are some practical tips and advice that might help:

1. Consider making some dietary changes to help thicken the output:
- Try incorporating foods like applesauce, bananas, white bread, cheese, oat bran or oatmeal, pasta, smooth peanut butter, white or mashed potatoes, pretzels, rice pudding, plain white rice, tapioca, and marshmallows into your meals. It's best to introduce these foods one at a time to see how they affect you.
- Some people find that keeping applesauce and peanut butter as regular parts of their diet helps maintain a thicker output.

2. Over-the-counter fiber or bulking products might be useful:
- Metamucil, which contains psyllium husk, has been reported to firm up output for some, even though it's typically used as a stool softener. Other fiber supplements designed for older adults might also be beneficial.

3. Marshmallows can be a quick solution:
- Many people suggest marshmallows as a nearly instant way to thicken output. Start with one marshmallow and adjust the amount as needed.

4. Use pouch-management products to handle thicker stool or prevent issues like pancaking:
- Products like Adapt Lubricating Deodorant (Hollister) can be applied inside the pouch to help thicker output slide out more easily and prevent damage to the pouch. Use about half a packet per application.

5. Keep in mind that thicker output isn't always better:
- Some have found that when their output thickened, it led to "pancaking," where the output pushes under the wafer and lifts the pouch. They now prefer a more liquid output for easier emptying and fewer leaks. This is something to consider if you encounter similar issues.

6. Medications already tried:
- Imodium has been used without success in this case, so focusing on dietary and fiber approaches might be more effective.
