Going into the hospital for TPN and surgery

Well, as I have been telling my doctors for about a year now, I am suffering from malnutrition.... I went for my second opinion as requested from my current G.I. and within 3 minutes of this new doctor looking at me, he said I'm malnourished. Needless to say, he wanted to admit me on the spot, however, due to my children and needing to make arrangements for them, I will be going into the hospital on Monday for TPN. I'll be in there for 7-10 days then go home on TPN as well. This should "bulk me up" (as the GI put it) for the surgery I will then be having. The "plan" is to slice the scar tissue to open things up. If not, they will take a piece out and reconnect what small amount I have left. They are also going to change sides of my stoma. I will now be playing left field due to the hernia I also mentioned to the doctors I had, but they didn't seem to think I had because they couldn't "feel" it. Seriously... why don't they LISTEN to the patient?

I plan on bringing my laptop with me to pass the time, I hope I can get internet from my room.

Looks like the summer of 2011 is going to be a bust. Me lounging around doing nothing but being catered to by my boys as I heal.....

It looks like you're in good hands with this new doctor. Good luck, Budd, and let's hope you can get a good internet connection while in the hospital.

Hi, buddy! Have you ever been on TPN before? If not, don't worry yourself. It's not as bad as it seems! Once they put the line in and you get used to the detailed routine of making sure everything is super clean... you'll start to feel better in no time! I have had four over the course of the last 19 years, and each time it nursed me back to health and I finally put some meat on my bones! The important thing is to remember to always keep it clean, and you won't have any problems. I hope you're feeling better soon. ~Traci~

Hi buddy

Hope everything goes well. I think a positive approach helps, and you do have that! I was lucky on my times going to the hospital, I was too busy and had to get out. Thinking of recovery time and all. Just remember to get your rest, take care.

Oh buddy, about time, Darlsz... Yeah, wish my scar tissue could be sorted out. Anyway, good luck mate, you need a break. I need a new specialist, I'm thinking.... Cheers and to a speedy recovery. Mooza. P.S. My stoma was moved from the right side to the left as well.... Talk about a few scars...

I was on TPN about 20 years ago and in for a month. I did manage to put on about 20 lbs on it. I'm looking forward to it really. It will be so nice to feel real again if that makes sense. I hate looking like I'm anorexic and can just imagine the whispers that go on. I even had a friend, well ex-friend now, tell me I was doing it on purpose, that my body was so used to being sick I was doing it without even knowing it. Yeah! Because I love feeling pain and always cold, not to mention the can't eat thing. Give me a break! To be honest, she could have stood to have this disease for a month or two if you get my drift!!

What a bitchy thing to say to you, buddy. I do get it. I heard 2 whispers about me when I was sick. The first one was that I was on heroin. WTF? And that I really had cancer. Yep, I know that cold feeling. It's like when it was hot in my country, I would be in front of the heater, always cold. You don't need that shite now. You just think of getting well.... Mooza xxx
