A few months ago, I woke up in a lot of pain and with a swollen tummy. My output was liquidy. I thought I had something stuck, but a few hours later, I ended up in A&E. After a scan, I was told the ileum from the stoma was inflamed and infected. I was treated with steroids and sent home 3 days later without any conclusion. That was in October. I have been unwell since then. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this or something similar.

Hello

From what you have said, I would be in direct contact with my colorectal team who performed your colectomy. Often the department concerned has a specialist nurse or stoma nurse, who you can locate by looking up the surgeon or NHS department for that info. Phone the secretarial contact number and insist on a review. A&E is there to resolve an emergency, not to follow up subsequently. In my experience, one has to be really insistent to get proper follow-up. The backlog within the NHS system is universal in the UK.

But do not be fobbed off.

Good luck

Be firm, also kind with an expression of insistence as well as patience. But do not ignore!
