Been an ostomate for 13 years. I rinse several times a day and wear a bag for a week. Never had an issue. May depend on the bag though. I use a Convatec 22771 cut to fit.

Wow, I just found all the people that this site keeps saying are members! They are all on this post! Where are all of you guys? Never seen most of those that posted. Come back to us! Lol

What a great stream of posts!

It does seem that most of us just have to do the rinsing for sanitary reasons! Seems about right! Even though I irrigate, on occasion there are presents, depending on my diet. Rinsing has never made any difference in the wear time of my flange. May even help it some! Irrigation also throws a lot of water at the wafer and has not seemed to lessen the wear time.

I’m usually not one for “support groups” and loathe whatever the hell they call Facebook these days.
This site has literally been a lifesaver because of its members, part support group, part dad jokes, part story telling, mostly friendship and if people don’t agree they just keep it to themselves. I honestly reminds me of the old days and just plain old polite society, it helps me more than I can explain. Thank you to everyone that allows me to engage with them and to all the members that help other members!

I have a hose that connects to the hose that fills the commode. It does not interfere with the filling of the commode tank and has a sprayer on the end. It is normally used to wash out cloth diapers. I take the pouch loose from the barrier, wipe the barrier clean, then hold the bag over the commode with the end clip off and wash the bag out. I wash it out from the top of the bag.

That would be awesome. My husband mentioned doing something like that a long time ago but just never got around to it. May have to mention it to him again. Would make things easier.

Need to clear up something when I said I wash it out from the top of the bag, I meant I spray it in the top of the pouch.

I was so happy to see this topic because lately I have been having problems with my bag leaking and can't figure out why. I had my ileostomy about three years ago, and until now, I never had much of a problem with leaking. Now, it seems the bags are leaking, and I am beginning to think it is because I am cleaning it too much! I know that if you use hot water to rinse, there is a chance that you will loosen the adhesive, and that does make sense. But even when I use cool water (now I am afraid to even use warm water), I am running into a problem. I shake the bag, as others do, but all of a sudden, the bag is leaking when it never had leaked before! I can't figure out what I am doing wrong and am thinking maybe I should be switching my skin barrier rings? Could that be the issue and not the water at all? I need help! The thought of this bag leaking while I am out in public is freaking me out!!
