Hi everyone,

I have had my ileostomy for close to 4 years now and I pretty much cannot complain aside from the skin irritation.

I have a very active ileostomy and a fistula underneath it the drains alot also. My skin gets extremely red and painful from the continuous drainage. I use marathon skin protectant that helps a bit but does anyone out there have a better suggestion?

I have a similar issue, antibiotics helps clear it up. Did they tell you what the fistula is from?  Not to be a pain in the stoma, mine is from infected mesh that I'm scheduled to have removed in 3 weeks ( says a very unhappy camper ). I pray it's not that for you.

hope that helps and sorry to hear you in pain

I have “dipear rash” issues often. I have a urostomy  and therefore urine on my skin a lot.  So when things get bad I have been known to strip away the bag wash and apply a thick layer of a mixture of barrier cream/vasiline and cornstarch.  I rub that in all over the flange area and more mixture on top.   Then I sit for a few hours with just towels over my stoma.   Then wash well and wow the next bag change it’s looking good.   No itching... I have found that works for me.   Yes I have to plan to do this on a day off with a nothing planned.  But I have learnt taking care of these things us now my life.  Good luck   I feel your oain🙂🙂

I have had a very active ileostomy for many years.  I use the ConvaTec SUR-Fit Natura wafer with flexible collar (#125259)  and  the  Convatec SUR-FIT Naura  Drainable Pouch (#404027).

Prior to placing on thw connected wafer and pouch, I ALWAYS place (wrap-around) a ConvaTec Eakin Cohesive Seal on the skin around my stoma. I have founf that sitting up in bed, rather than standing up

while changing my appliance works much better for me when changing my appliance. It allows more relaxed time while changing your appliance.

Also you should seek/search out a hospital-based ostomy nurse for advice and help.

I'm not sure what a fistula is. Your having this may complicate matters for you. Good kuck!!
