I had a blow out. Skin irriated.  Talked to the nurse, she thinks its a yeast infection. Will send her pictures after next change. Has anyone had this problem before.

Thanks

Hi Daanders. I think lots of us have gotten yeast infections, and we've dealt with them in various ways. Your WOCN is probably the best person to guide you through this. All I can offer at this time is to keep the affected area as dry as possible. If it really bothers you or if you think it's growing, get the pictures to the nurse sooner.

Let us know how it goes.

Respectfully,

Mike

This site has been a blessing for me in learning how to cope with and navigate this journey as an ostomate. I have a colostomy as a result of a perforation in my colon since May of this year. I don't know yet if it will be permanent or reversible. The people on here have provided me with so much advice and information about living with an ostomy that I don't think I could get anywhere else. You all have given me hope and a place to come to for support. I still struggle with acceptance, but know that it will come if I am patient. Patience has never been my strong suit! Also, I love all the humor, although it really pissed me off when I first came on here. Thanks to all of you.

Yes.  I first went to my PCP to do a swab test to verify infection / type.  Then I went to the ostomy clinic.

Very helpful

I had an yeast infection & my surgeon is who I spoke with about it & he gave me a perscription for an antibiotic to heal it, after that I always with every change use stome powder & I havent had an infection again. I've had my colostomy for a little more than 4 1/2 years. I wear a 2pc appliance & it will last 5 to 7 days unless I get in the heat & start sweating then it has to be changed at that time.
