Hello Daanders.

I have taken metamucil intermittently over many years. Nowadays, I only take it when I have a problem with consistency of stools or reflux. I find it works for both of those problems. I see no reason why it would not work to thicken output but I use it for the opposite reason:  i.e. to resolve the problem of hard stools and potential blockages. It is not the sort of thing that would cause problems, so I would suggest simply trying it and see how you get on. Most of the things that are recommended for ostomates need to be experiemented with to see what suits particular people.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Best wishes

Bill

I have learned a lot from this site. People are willing to share things that has worked for them,  Things like supplies, skin care, different surgeies, blockages, and a lot more.

I tried it but did not like it. I use Clearlax which is the generic of Miralax. It will mix with any kind of drink and has no taste. Best wishes and stay safe

Hi D,

I've tried it in the past, and for me it didn't do much.  With my short gut I'm looking to reduce my output as much as possible, so while taking Meti might thicken it up.......it's also adding to the total output......which is the opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish.  I mean one bag of liquid would now equal two bags of toothpaste. Maybe good if I'm riding my pogo stick, but otherwise it just doubled my output.  But everyone's results may vary, so I'd say give it a shot.........I guess you can get used to the texture over time.  Always reminded me of getting a mouthful of sandy sea water in my mouth.....gotta love that grit!!
