I am just wondering if any body knows the percentage of patients who have had a colostomy reversal, then go on to needing an illeostomy untill the anastomosis has healed???

Author, Hi:

I couldn't tell you percentage, but maybe can explain the "why".

A diverting ileostomy would be done in such cases to allow the anastamosis (joining of the bowel) to heal properly and make sure it is leakproof before allowing stool to pass through.  It is common for surgeons to do this in cases where tissue has been radiated, or folks are slow healers from other medical reasons/medications delaying healing.

New ostomate, we’ve all gone through feeling low and depressed over your ostomy.
This is a pretty open group. Right now, in summer, it’s a low response time—lots of family things going on. If you need something, call out. Someone dealing with your situation will post something sooner or later.
It’s just that time of year.
Take care, and good luck.
