About a week ago I sneezed and felt like I pulled something on my left side next to Sophie(stoma), the next day I could not walk unless I held Sophie in my hands and luckily I had the

weekend to recuperate.  But on and off since then I get some bad pain/cramps I don't know what to call it but it hurts and sends chills all thru my body and I get very nauseated and try to throw up.  I tried eating a soft diet for a couple of days and it seemed to get a little better however I have noticed that my output is not the same ( less than before).  Today at

work I had a cup of coffee and after a while it started hurting again and the nausea got really bad and now I seem to be real tender.  Had soup for supper and even that is doing the same thing.  This is zapping all my strength.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Penelope - I am afraid it sounds like a hernia to me - I have a massive one and one sneeze is all it takes to get it going! Mine has the same effect - drags me down and I can barely walk without huge pain form it unless I have my support on - I now have back problems and sciatica from it too as have been effectively 7 months pregnant for the last 6 years on one side......

Suggest you go and get it looked at, especially as it is giving you all that grief, and in the meantime try get some support on it .... sorry to be the bearer of bad news .... and I may be wrong, but I think a trip to the doc is required.

Take care and let us know how you get on,

yes I have to agree with the panel here, been there done that sounds like a hernia.Because of the incision on your stomach from the ostomy ,even tho healed, will always be a soft spot and herniated.I sneezed so hard my hernia bounced back and dislocated my back .Had to see the bone doc for that one.Try wearing a hernia belt untill it heals or learn to sneeze gently but defineitly see your sawbones.

Thanks for all the help.  I went to the emergency room and they took x-rays and blood work and said everything looked fine, so then went to see the surgeon and the only thing he can suggest is to go back in and fix the hernia or possibly relocate the stoma.  He wants me to have colonoscopy done first and then get back with him, it seems my output is not as usual and he is afraid something is being strangulated in there.  I am not looking forward to this; as I hoped I would never have to be back in the hospital again.  Again thanks for the replies and this site has been a life saver.

Hey Penelope, dont be afraid of a Colonoscopy as it is what is saving my life, I get my reversal free and clear because of it.  They put you to sleep and you feel nothing and I was given the new Pills they have so I got to drink water with them and my husband did measure it for me and everything went great.  No pain and awesome pictures of my colon and I know it is one healthy colon and ready for a reversal.  Just dont be afraid of something you wont feel and you arent in the hospital very long.  Just a couple or more hours and your asleep so whats it matter.  I was so afraid before I had mine and my friends told me to make sure I ask for the pills so I googled them and my Doctor gave them to me so I didnt get sick or feel bad or have stomach pain or anything, it went great.  Trust in your Doctor if he is caring and good, plus if he lets you take the pills and water with them instead of drinking that nasty tasting crud you have one good Doctor.  I promise mine went great just a few days ago and like you I was so freaked out and then so grateful it was so easy. God Bless you and I wish you all they Best, Love Jenny
