Hello all, I'm new here, so cut me some slack. I'm 33 years old and have a loop end ileo; I have no colon or large intestine. I was misdiagnosed twice in 3 years. And my local ER left me walking around septic and in extreme pain for 10 days after a colonoscopy. I had emergency surgery on April 5th this year (2010). So I was by far not prepared to wake up with 14 staples and a bag attached to my belly. Come to find out, what I had for 3 years could have been treated with antibiotics, which means I didn't need the last colonoscopy at all. My local ER failed to recognize the perforated colon due to the oscopy, twice in ten days; therefore, my insides were so infested with infection they had to remove all but my small intestine. No, not fair at all.

I think quite a few of us have arrived here via the same route - mis-diagnosis or a slip of the knife, you are in good company....

This group has been my go-to during my loneliest hours whenever I've had a "bag blowout" at 3am and there was no one else in the world to talk to.

Because it's a global community, there's always someone here to lend an ear, provide advice, and just hold my hand if that's all I need.

Sure, there's also a lot of camaraderie, fun topics, and laughs, but the main reason I come here is for the total acceptance I get from the members. No one else on the planet could possibly "get" what I'm going through, not even my loving husband or supportive family.

The "Meet an Ostomate" forum is definitely a one-of-a-kind family, which I am very proud to belong to.

Remember that there are a couple of bitter people on here, and some of their comments should be kept to themselves. But other than a few smelly eggs, this site has lots of nice people on here.

Thank you, guys. Man, I wish I would wake up from this bad dream though!

It took me 8 months before I realized it was not a bad dream but an opportunity to find out what is really important. I have no colon, bladder, large intestine, and other things from cancer. Life can be good if you want it to be. At least I am here to say I had a bad day :)
