Hello all, I'm new here, so cut me some slack. I'm 33 years old and have a loop end ileo; I have no colon or large intestine. I was misdiagnosed twice in 3 years. And my local ER left me walking around septic and in extreme pain for 10 days after a colonoscopy. I had emergency surgery on April 5th this year (2010). So I was by far not prepared to wake up with 14 staples and a bag attached to my belly. Come to find out, what I had for 3 years could have been treated with antibiotics, which means I didn't need the last colonoscopy at all. My local ER failed to recognize the perforated colon due to the oscopy, twice in ten days; therefore, my insides were so infested with infection they had to remove all but my small intestine. No, not fair at all.
MeetAnOstoMate is a remarkable community of 41,417 members.
“I mostly read and still feel like I belong.”
“Doctors took notes; they want others to find this website.”
“From midnight blowouts to big wins, there’s always a hand to hold.”
This group has been my go-to during my loneliest hours whenever I've had a "bag blowout" at 3am and there was no one else in the world to talk to.
Because it's a global community, there's always someone here to lend an ear, provide advice, and just hold my hand if that's all I need.
Sure, there's also a lot of camaraderie, fun topics, and laughs, but the main reason I come here is for the total acceptance I get from the members. No one else on the planet could possibly "get" what I'm going through, not even my loving husband or supportive family.
The "Meet an Ostomate" forum is definitely a one-of-a-kind family, which I am very proud to belong to.
