Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice, please. I had my colostomy reversed on the 25th of November, got out of the hospital 10 days later, but did not feel well. Then I started to get pus pouring out of my old stoma site and ended up back in the hospital as the bowel was leaking, and I had to get another operation. Now I have a loop ileostomy, but my skin is all broken out, so sore, and weeping. Any suggestions on how I can deal with it? Any advice would be great, as I am at the end of the road with it. x

Oh, you poor love - that sounds horrendous. Things that have been suggested are calamine lotion and karaya powder. Also, you may have a fungal infection on the skin, especially if you have been on a lot of antibiotics, which is likely. So, that would need some anti-fungal preparation. If you go to the 'forum' and type in 'fungal infection', it comes up with a load of previous posts with suggestions which you can try. Also, I suggest you have a word with your stoma nurse if you have one; they are usually very helpful. Good luck in clearing it up,

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me.  The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience.  When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated.  Either way, it is a good site.

I really feel for you. I also have a loop ileostomy. I think the most important thing is to find out what's causing your sore skin. Is it your appliances or the bag contents on your skin? See your stoma nurse as soon as possible. It's bad enough having a bag without feeling like you need to be peeled off the ceiling every time the thing works.
Hope you find something to sort it out soon.
