a funny thing

A funny thing happened today, I HAD A POO. Sorry to shout but I was amazed. I came in the house and had this pain right low down and thought I just needed to have a wee. I sat on the loo to do the bag at the same time and this pain turned into a little but real poo. Now since I had my first resection 27 years ago I've never had a solid poo like this, I just sat there and chuckled.

I've heard of this happening to others but never dreamed it would happen to me.

My conclusion to the whole affair is it's a messy business, this poo thing, and having to wipe so I'm quite happy with the bag, much cleaner and I go when I want.

Hello, are you saying the poo came from your butt? That means you might have a fistula. I went to the emergency room. It's not normal. I don't think so.

This site is a godsend. As a newbie (colostomy on Nov 8, '21), I look at it every day for a number of reasons. Reading what people are going through makes me grateful that my elective surgery because of a severe case of IBS-C is nothing compared to what they have been through and are still living with.

I don't have to go to the hospital for anything related to my ostomy. I feel sorry for those who do and am in awe of those who can use humor to describe their ordeal. I identify with those who express their fears. I especially identify with those who are depressed because I am clinically depressed and have general anxiety disorder. How ironic that having a colostomy eliminated some of the depression and anxiety that the IBS created. I've been widowed twice and I'm on match.com.
I immediately included my operation in my profile and am pleased to say it doesn't seem to make a difference.

And there is much humor on this site and it's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

I could name numerous things I've learned from reading people's comments/questions/answers.

After months following on a daily basis, my only negative comment is I don't like listing the most popular members.
It's not that I don't like these people; I do. It's that I think it elicits some "Facebook"-like banter or comments that are gratuitous.

I don't do any social media and think that its merits are overshadowed by too much negativity.

Meetanostomate is in no way negative. I just think the gallery of "popularity" detracts from what is an excellent website that deals with a serious issue that causes a myriad of emotions.

I think I know what you mean, but I'm fine. I was told that because I still have a colon at the end, residue builds up and over time this forms into a sort of poo which is discharged naturally. I can't say I enjoyed the experience.

Hello Blueonthetyne. Thanks for sharing your experience. I used to pass solid lumps from my anus for a time when I first had the ostomy. Apparently, it was due to the healing process and the build-up of mucus from the 'anal stump'. I was not happy about the foul smelling stuff so I irrigated it out for some time. However, gradually the horrid stuff started to clear and now I only have a clear/non- smelling discharge which is easily caught in an incontinence pad. Given the extent of faecal incontinence [prior to the ostomy I feel it's a small price to pay!! Best wishes Bill.

After my ileostomy surgery in 1970, the doctor removed my rectum and bowel, so I am closed up in that area.
