I have a parastomal hernia with an ileostomy for about 10 years. Lately, my right side of the back near the waistline has started aching, especially when lying down. Could this be hernia-related?

Do you remember any activity where you were moving and that's when it started to hurt?

If it just started and you don't remember a specific injury, it might be worth a call to your primary care to rule out other possible causes of pain.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll discuss irrigation with my doctor. I'm sure it would be down the road. My output is still very liquid. It's all so unpredictable at 6 weeks post-op. I have such a fear of constipation as I struggled with this forever. I used a fiber source to thicken the stool but it hasn't helped very much. I guess I will continue to be positive but it is a bit of a pain. This website is great and everyone is so informative. Cheryl

Yes, check it out and see it's not something else causing the pain.
