Hi, I have been lurking here for a bit but am trying to be more brave and reach out. I’ve been having a very difficult time living life with an ileostomy. I am hoping maybe I can find people here to talk to and ask questions that can relate with all this.

Look forward to hopefully chatting soon!

Hi Em,

If you've been lurking, then you know this place is full of 'em... so jump right in and ask away. What have you got to lose?

Same thing happened to me when I was 21! I had a pretty good outlook when I woke up from surgery and realized I was alive... so that's the first great thing. It is rough for the first year-ish... but I can promise you it soon becomes a part of you and if you get into some good habits, you don't even think much of it. I've had many amazing, normal, and even beautiful wives (2) and people I've dated that weren't ostomates. I've had this for 35 years now... happy to communicate with anything you want to ask!

I too have a permanent ileostomy. The thing seems to dominate my life!

After every meal, it starts, soft stool, then pasty, then water. Yes, I take medication, lots of it.
I have low iron and take iron by mouth in the middle of the night when I empty, which is three or four times a night.
Does anyone else have this much difficulty?

Any progress, Em? Since the last post? How are you feeling these days?

Yeah, I get that, Mr. Sunshine. It's the new norm, but try not to let it dominate your life.

I hate this bag. In the same boat as the rest of us, emptying 2 to 4 times after bedtime.

Exhausting!

Sometimes every 2 freaking hours. Can set my watch to it.
