Hi Katie.

I use an Irypump but I’ve had no joy in getting replacement cones or tube. I periodically soak the cone in mild Milton disinfectant. The tank goes in the dish washer. Cleaning the tube is more problematic but filling it with Flash bleach then throughly washing it does the trick. I hope your pump lasts a long time but if the bettery fails, which is a common problem. Don’t panic. Your pump can be easily converted to run on 12v mains supply. Anybody with just a little electrical knowledge will have no difficulty doing the conversion. I have detailed instructions on how to do it. When the time comes let me know and I’ll send them to you.  I rely heavily on my pump and having it work from the mains supply is very reassuring.  So if it fails, and it’s a battery / charging issue, don’t panic. There will be an article in the next Colostomy UK magazine so the Editor tells me.   John

Well,  I  hit the two year mark. I went back and read my posts from when I first found this site. I was very fortunate in that I stumbled upon it only 4 weeks post op. I have said many times that this community really saved me. The first 2 weeks after my surgery I shut down completely. It wasn't until about the 3rd week that my son came in to my room, flicked on the light and told me I was going to have to get back to living because I was scaring him. I had fallen into such a depression.  He  ticked me off,  but it also made me stop and think- what was I going to do? Feel sorry for myself and sulk, or be grateful I was alive.

I've re-read my journals from that time and it was after my son kicked my butt, so to speak, I took an honest inventory and had to dig deeper than I've ever had to. I mean, I had survived a pretty nasty divorce, after a pretty crappy marriage and that was tough. But this was different. I felt like I was now a handicapped person who would be limited in their life and be looked at as a freak. My mental state was precarious, at best.

But then I found this site. I just lurked a bit before posting. I read so many of the other stories and I started to see just how full my life can be, I was not handicapped,  and certainly not a freak! The stories of survival, the sense of humor, the support and compassion was inspiring.  It was then I made myself get out of the dark, and get my sh*t together.

Not all rainbows and sunshine at first, hardly! But with grace from myself - to myself, and the kindness and willingness of the folks here to be supportive, non judgemental and openly share intimate details about their life circumstances,  l not only survived but thrived.

I think of all the years I had suffered with such extreme pain, barely functioning,  and the many hospital stays and how that is all behind me now.  (All fingers, toes, and legs crossed that I never have to go near a hospital for myself ever again. I think I'd rather have a fork stuck in my eye. I loathe every about them.)

So, to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me, to say thank you is not enough. I'm forever grateful to know you all.  My Angels, each one of you.

And as the Grateful Dead famously said,

"what a long strange trip it's been!"

Im so happy I'm tripping with you all.

Hello Katie.
Several years ago I wrote a review on the Braun system, concluding that it was a useful addition to our arsenal of stoma management tools. However,  it was not entirely suitable for me for several reasons. I therefore had to find an(or some) alternative(s).
The first was a portable camping shower, which worked well –until it stopped and didn’t work at all. I am not a fan of things that break down without warning, so --
The second was a hand pressure pump for spraying weedkiller. This worked well and I still use an advanced version of this today.
I don’t use cones anymore but feel sure that you can still get them from Coloplast, along with a very handy water regulator, which I still use. This comes as part of their irrigation sets, but can be also obtained separately.
It should be no problem to connect these devices to a Braun system by just connecting the two tubes together. If you are concerned about this, then try a small piece of stainless steel drinking straw, which can be obtained from the internet or many large supermarkets. I use them on my system and they are great and simple for connecting the tubes.
PS: I have tried to locate this equipment on Coloplast website with no luck but if you contact them and explain what you are looking for, they might even send you a sample.
Best wishes

Bill

I just have last tubes and cone left. I just use the pump some time when I am in hurry. Cus th other system takes time to set up. I any one has any spare please let me know. If anyone wants the water tank i have couple. Let us know if you need them. Take care of yourself every one keep warm.

Hi Katie.

Do you know that it's possible to convert a failed Irypump to run successfully on 12v mains electricity ? It's not a difficult conversion version and anybody with just a little competence with a screwdriver  can do it.

I have full detailed instructions on how to do it. the Colostomy UK magazine, I'm told, will give details soon.
