What does everyone use to prevent the break down of skin around an ostomy.  I have had mine for 22years and the skin looks thin and I get bleeds that are severe.

Does your appliance fit properly? Do you have a lot of leakage?

Typically, for the occasional sore spot caused by a leak or whatever, I use stoma powder followed by no-sting spray and make a little crust of the two over the area. Look up the crust & dust method.

Hope this helps!

I’d like to write a nice review
that might express something quite new.
Then I read previous points of view,
which said the things I wanted to.
I would endorse the things I’ve read
about what other folks have said,
for these are the benefits and things
that joining a site like this can bring.
When I was an initiate, (novice)
it seemed to be appropriate
to express myself in rhyme
as this is how I spend my time.
When contemplating what to write
with contributing to this site,
it seemed to me, my ostomy
could be expressed in poetry.
Thus, when I had something to say,
a rhyme, for me seemed the best way,
for rhymes can often capture stuff
that prose don’t capture quite enough.
I do appreciate the way,
this site lets people have their say
in whatever mode they will
about the things that make them ill.
There are not many forums for
discussing stuff most folks abhor.
So, this site fulfils a small niche,
where angst and problems can unleash.
Where raw emotions can decant,
so, folks feel free to have a rant,
and we can all associate
is something I appreciate.

I agree with Kas. Your solution may be an appliance with better adherence to your skin. Ileostomy or colostomy? Retracted stoma? High output stoma? Watery output?

More information is needed to better offer suggestions.

G-Day, do you have access to a stoma nurse? If not, go see your doctor or a wound specialist. Regards, IGGIE

If you are not already using a barrier ring, that is what I would recommend.  As a Canadian, you can access Salts products (British company), and they make an aloe infused ring that will do wonders for your skin.  I started using them about three years ago, and have had very healthy peristomal skin since.  Call Salts and request a sample.

Somewhere back someone was talking about this and that they used Nystatin and it cleared up. I have this problem and was wondering if the Nystatin cream will make the bag not stick? How do you use it?
