Does anyone here use Cavilon Barrier Wands? Are they good? I have been using Dermarite wands and they are excellent but expensive. I can't get them through my insurance anymore because the company I use for supplies doesn't carry them anymore. I am halfway through my last box. So I have to order something in replacement. Now I use the Dermarite wands all over my skin, not just around my stoma, and it makes a really good seal on my wafer. I am wondering if Cavilon Barrier Wands are as good? Do they make a good seal? Are they slightly sticky? Has anyone had success with these? I know one place where I can get the Dermarite wands, but they cost more. And cost is an issue. So if Cavilon Barrier Wands are as good, then I'd be happy to switch to them. As they are about $10 cheaper and even more so with shipping. Because without shipping, I think Dermarite wands are about $75 and then shipping. Cavilon is $60 and then $70 with shipping. So, does anyone have experience with Cavilon Barrier Wands? I am looking at the 3mL ones, not the 1mL ones.

Additionally I just checked and the Dermarite ones are out of stock on the one and only website I found them on.

When I found this web site, I didn't think its name had anything to do with actually meeting an ostomate but I later learned there were some folks who did meet and develop relationships. How good is that? That wasn't my intention. I definitely didn't want anyone to meet me. I felt broken and wasn't prepared to express those feelings. I thought it was a place where ostomates wrote about themselves, posed questions, shared thoughts, told jokes and, sometimes, just vented. I thought of it as a community of folks with similar interests and various degrees of experience. Mostly I found some of the most caring, selfless, wise and understanding people I ever imagined. I was so impressed with some of the writings; not because of their literary value but the way in which they addressed such a very complex environment. I read hundreds of exchanges and admired the way folks cared for each other. I became hopeful with my own situation and looked forward to the next day's offerings. Certainly some contributors stood out with their experience or particular skills in addressing some things but it seemed like a total effort with synergistic results. I felt blessed to have found this site. I still do.

I tried samples of Cavilon; they made my bag stick to me extra well. I use adhesive remover spray, so no problems removing the bag and had no skin irritations. Give them a try and see what you think of them.

Thanks for the positive review. I am hoping they are worth the money and that they do the job since I have just run out of alternatives.

I use 3M Cavilon wands and barrier spray.  I use the wands for crusting.  Works perfect.  I moisten an area with the wand, sprinkle on the stoma powder, uniformly distribute the powder with a finger.  Use wand again to moisten powder, repeat 2 more times.  Lightly brush away excess powder.  Makes a nice, tough crust.  Then I spray Cavilon on the parastomal skin.  It's OK if it gets on the stoma, you don't have to shield the little beast.

My skin looks good.  The crusting helps protect the bottom of my stoma from pressure damage when I sit.  This causes a fat roll to push up against the bottom of my wafer.

Have you tried using the dermatite wipes instead of the wand? I saw the wipes on quite a few sites. Just off a quick search, digging deeper could find more. The key is to go on each site individually and search, and then you might also find something else you would want to try that might be better. It might take some time, but don't give up the search. I did a quick look at the wands for you. The wands Betty Mills has 1ml box of 25 for 30 bucks, and Medical Monks has both the 1ml and 3ml.

The thing is I don't like wipes. They never seem to work for me. Maybe I do them wrong or something. It usually takes me 2 or 3 wipes where I can use 1 wand. And I don't get the same effect from the wipes.

I appreciate you searching them out for me though.
