Hello all, my name is Paul and I am from Shropshire (England). I had an emergency sub-total colectomy 2 and a half years ago.

Since then, I have developed a peri-stomal hernia, an incisional hernia, and diastasis recti.

I have seen a new surgeon who has suggested that I have an ileorectal anastomosis first and then, after recovery from that, have an abdominal wall reconstruction (as I need a skin graft).

I would like to discuss the procedure/outcome with anyone who has had this procedure, please?

What was the reason behind the stoma in the first place?

IBD? Cancer?

Dear Everyone 😊🙏🏻☮️❤️👼😊🌈☀️🌹🤗👩🏻☀️
Hello! Hope your all, having a great start of your day! I have to say this place has been helpful in many ways and the people here, seem very real and mostly helpful in anyway! I usually don't bother anyone really and try to figure out different things on my own, but that is with common sense, but with experience definitely helps and I read stories and I have my own stories and it's been so much and it's nice to have friends here, who understand same kind of situation 😊
I think it's great when people help each other and who is helpful in different ways! I appreciate anything advice etc... Thank you all and very happy this site is here ! I hope you have a good day/night! I'm trying to figure out how to take care of me more then I used to as I think of others more then myself! I'm hoping your all having a great summer! Let's all help more and give a high 5 and all help and get together! 😊☮️❤️😊🌈☀️🌧

Very helpful

Hi, I have an IRA.

Have they done tests on the rectum, anus, and sphincter muscles to see if they're functioning properly to be able to have a successful IRA?

Hello and thank you for your reply. As I said in my intro, I am 2 and a half years post sub-total ileostomy. I have developed diastasis recti, a per-stomal and incisional hernia. I thought my life was with a permanent stoma, but I saw a surgeon a couple of weeks ago for consideration of an abdominal wall reconstruction and repair of the hernias. He told me about the ileorectal anastomosis operation, which I had not heard of before. He has referred me back to another surgeon for that procedure. I have not had any tests done to date on the rectum/anus/sphincter.

I would be most grateful if you could share with me your experience, procedure, and outcome, please?

Kind regards,

Paul.
