Hi all

Currently using Hollister pouch 8678 one-piece system since May of this year. Just recently, I have had a couple develop small holes near the neck at the bottom of the bag. The holes have been on the outside near the Velcro, as I normally notice as I am rolling up and then find a little moisture coming through. I tend to do a quick wipe after all rolled just to make sure it's dry. I also noticed the strips they put around the neck to support and keep things nice and flat as you roll up to close seem to be coming away from the pouch, and they never used to do that.
Anyone else had any issues lately?

Thanks!

I have experienced bad or defective batches of ostomy pouches from Hollister, so that may be what happened to you. I had to get them to replace six boxes one time, which they did. If there doesn't seem to be another explanation, that is probably it. Give them a call.

I’ve only been on this site a little bit, I hardly know how to navigate it, LOL! I just want to say that everyone seems so kind and supportive to each of the members and it’s not only helpful, it makes me happy that there really are so many nice people in this world that can sometimes feel so bleak and cold. I didn’t even know about this site until I found it by accident. I think the hospital staff should bring it to their patients’ attention. Thanks to all, even if you’re just listening!

Report it to the Hollister Company.

I think I will. I can't figure out why it happened either, as nothing is rubbing up against the bags. Fluke, I guess!! 😉

I've had a couple of Hollister bags do that. I just used them until I could conveniently get to change them. Unless a person has pure liquid output, it would be hard to get them to leak once they are all folded up.

Hi Zeb,

It's a common problem with Hollister Roll-n-Lok bags. You have to be very careful there's no output or pieces of output in the neck of the bag when you roll up the end. Otherwise, when you squeeze the Velcro-like stuff together, you generate a lot of pressure in the corner of the bag where the Velcro-like stuff is heat sealed to the bag and blow through the very thin plastic in that area. I've learned to just deal with it, but it can be a pain at times. I've reported it to Hollister a few times, but they aren't going to fix it anytime soon. And getting more bags with the same problem doesn't really fix anything. You either live with it or find another manufacturer. Sad, but true.

;O)

This happened to me once so far. I caught and just changed the pouch and that one was OK. I guess it can happen given what theses pouches are supposed to do - keep poop at bay!

As others said, report it. I once got a box of bags where the Velcro was on the wrong side, so it didn't match up and seal. I was like, what idiots did this?

Pragmatism - must be difficult on occasion when output may be more challenging.

Perhaps it's time to use a better designed product..... You could try Salts and import direct?....... or set up a lobby for supply via a US factor perhaps?

Some ostomy care stoma nurses advocate wiping the inside of the bag out at the two sides of the opening mouth...... rather 'soiling' I would have thought as a matter of norm......

Good luck....... I wish you the opportunity to try something better.

Thank you!

Sounds like they should work on their QA!
