Has anyone flown since getting their colostomy? Does the air pressure affect it at all? 🤷‍♀️
Thanks! 😊

I've flown with a colostomy. Longest flight was 5 hours. No problem at all. No ballooning. I don't eat a big meal the night before the flight. I sip a Gatorade Fit in the morning before flying. At the airport, I don't eat anything.

Happy travels

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

I don't have a colostomy, but I do have an ileostomy, and I've flown a lot without any problems. As long as I empty before I get on the plane, I am good until I land. Good luck! 🍀

As long as the plane doesn't crash, your bag will be fine. 😁

Hi,

I flew a couple of times with my colostomy and had no problems. Nothing different occurred.

Have good travels.

Hi
I have flown many times with a colostomy. I have just flown 9.5 hours from Gatwick, UK, to Florida. I needed to change the closed bag during the flight and went to the toilet and put it in a Tupperware box. I hope if and when you do fly, it goes smoothly for you.

🤢 Why? Use a drainable during your flight, empty it, and avoid dealing with carrying a Tupperware container full of crap. 🤷‍♂️

I've flown plenty with my ileostomy. No problems with my bag, just a little dehydrated, but I make up for that when I land. Your bag will show up on the scanner at the airport. Hopefully, they just wipe your hands with a cloth and have you place them over your shirt to make sure it's a bag and not a gun. Everyone uses the bathroom on a plane. Maybe bring M9 drops for odor.

I'm getting ready for a 15+ hr flight to Europe with an ileostomy, so no getting around having to empty during the flight. Any recommendations for the best way to handle that on a moving plane? I'll also have to eat before and during the flight. I appreciate any tips...

If you sit on the throne and empty between your legs at home, then you're good at it and just do it on the plane. If your output is thick, bring a cup in with you and put some in your bag to help empty. And hope for very little turbulence!
