I had surgery for colon cancer one month ago and have an ileostomy bag. I also have a fissure between my colon and vagina caused by trauma from one of the internal staples.

Tonight I felt nauseous and had the urge to poo. Two quite large stools came out of my anus. I'm terrified and waiting on a Telehealth call from an after-hours doctor. We have a long weekend, so that's my only option.

Has anyone had stools, not mucus, coming from their anus?

G-Day Ilio,

It is normal to have some stool or mucus in the early stages, but someone who has gone through the same will come in and talk with you. Good luck.

This group has been my go-to during my loneliest hours whenever I've had a "bag blowout" at 3am and there was no one else in the world to talk to.

Because it's a global community, there's always someone here to lend an ear, provide advice, and just hold my hand if that's all I need.

Sure, there's also a lot of camaraderie, fun topics, and laughs, but the main reason I come here is for the total acceptance I get from the members. No one else on the planet could possibly "get" what I'm going through, not even my loving husband or supportive family.

The "Meet an Ostomate" forum is definitely a one-of-a-kind family, which I am very proud to belong to.

You are not long from surgery, so it's still possible there was some stool in there. Mucus can be quite deceiving in appearance and can look like stool, thick, or even hard and quite dark in color. If you are not still nauseous, I doubt you have anything to worry too much about.

Yes, and it's scary. I have a loop colostomy, so stool does get past my bag, especially if it's loose. Also, it happens if I put off emptying my bag, which is better than the alternative of the bag blowing off. You can head this problem off using a glycerin suppository and a warm water enema about once a week, so you aren't caught unawares.
