I was just wondering if my stomach cramps and mucus produced by my rectum are going to be a lifelong struggle. It is 3 weeks every other month, and I'm unable to leave the house for that time.
Please, any advice is greatly appreciated!

My colostomy that I got in 24 seems to produce mucus on a daily basis. Usually, I try to void it while emptying my bag. No more cramps, thankfully.

I take part in these forums almost every day. They and the people that contribute to them have made all the difference in my having the courage to live a normal life with an ileostomy. The people here are marvelous and come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Hearing what others have lived through has really helped me put my own experience in perspective. I highly recommend all ostomates and caretakers of ostomates to come join us.

If you got the Barbie butt surgery, you shouldn't have any mucus. I've never had cramps or mucus with mine.

Is there any side effects?

To the Barbie butt surgery? For me, it takes time to heal, but otherwise, it was the easiest part of my whole cancer/ostomy journey.

I just wondered. I haven't had the surgery, but I'm in pain every other month, so I was wondering if that would help.

Thank you,

G-Day Tiffany,

I got my Ken butt 4 years ago, and I was lucky to have had no pain afterward, but I know some people do experience pain. But it's worth it; no mucus and no feeling of wanting to go. Life is good for me, and you can find the same comfort.

Regards, IGGIE

I'm currently waiting for this surgery. Twice this month it got canceled, so now it's going to be the 15th of July.

I get an odd bit of blood and mucus from the rectal stump, not painful, just sometimes I get the urge to go to the toilet the old way before I had the ileo.

There are some risks to having the surgery as there are a lot of nerve endings in the pelvic area, but the surgery for UC is much different from the surgery for cancer treatment. As they don't remove much of the fatty tissue around the rectum for UC removal, they don't need to go near the nerves. The hardest part I've been told is the healing as to where the surgery is, sitting for long periods, etc.

I have the same issues.

I had an emergency ileostomy due to sepsis. I was just wondering who I should talk to—my GI? I don't have an ostomy nurse.

About once a week, I use a glycerin suppository (a few hours before a shower) and then a lukewarm enema while in the shower to clear out the mucus. The mucus is something that happens all the time, as this is what protects your bowel from acid.
