Is it common to see a tinge of blood in the toilet 4 months after an ostomy?

I don't think that's common. Is it possible you've irritated your stoma?

If not, I'd give your surgeon a call. It may be nothing, but I'd want to be sure.

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me.  The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience.  When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated.  Either way, it is a good site.

Only if your stoma got hit and started to bleed.

Blood in the toilet from what end? From your ostomy or your bottom?

Hi t,

I assume you're talking about the blood coming out of your rectum and not your stoma. If it's from your stoma, then no... it's not common. Blood from your bowels typically combines with your stool and just darkens your output in your bag. If you're seeing bright red blood in the toilet when you empty your bag (like if you just pricked your finger), it's coming from somewhere either just upstream of the stoma exit or at the exit. Otherwise, it would have mixed with your output and simply made it darker.

If you're talking about seeing blood in the toilet after sitting on it, i.e., from your rectum, then it could or could not be common depending on what's going on inside your ass. There's a lot of variables there, so no need to guess further until you clarify.

;O)

I have a loop colostomy, and sometimes I get blood, mucus, and stool from my rectum. It's normal for me, and the doctor isn't concerned. Once in a while, I get blood coming from my stoma, which the doctor says is normal. The only time I had a lot of blood was when my skin was infected, which cleared up as soon as antibiotics started working.
