Hi all, I am new to this site. I am wondering if anyone has tried to lose weight by taking slimming pills, as I am thinking about it since I am not mobile, so just cutting down on food is not working very well. I can't walk far or do much in the way of exercise, so I thought I may try pills. But I am not sure if that would be okay with an ileostomy. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

I would speak to your stoma nurse about it or phone your consultant's secretary.

I just wanted to take the time to wish everyone a good holiday. I especially would like to thank this website and the folks that run it and keep it going. This site has been a life saver for me and I am so thankful I found it. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and Hanukka and if you don't claim either holiday, I hope you have a nice day. See you all next year!

Hi,

The key to losing weight is actually working muscles and increasing muscle mass; this will help you burn more calories each day.
Even with mobility challenges, I would work your upper body with some small weights.

Both the pills and injection actually suppress your appetite so you eat less; in doing so, you lose muscle mass and often become malnourished.

I have no idea what is in a slimming pill, but tirzepetide is dirt cheap on the gray market and is subcutaneously injected. It also works, unlike most herbal junk.

Thank you, superMario. I will try that. I do have some small weights for my arms, but I can't do tummy exercises as I have a large hernia. That's another reason I want to get rid of some weight.

My husband had a stroke and has an ileostomy. He is mobile, but can't manage long distances anymore. We were fortunate enough to move to a continuing care community. We are currently in a cottage, but other levels are here when needed. He has a scooter also. The community has a gym, and he does arm exercises and uses a stationary bike. It has helped stop the weight gain from lack of walking.

I have an ileostomy, and I have always been overweight except when I was very sick. All of my doctors, GI and endo, warn me against taking Ozempic or any of those types of drugs because they could freeze my small intestine. I don't have my large colon. I don't want to have any more problems, so I stay away from those. I have had a problem of always feeling hungry. I do take Ultra Berberine with cinnamon twice per day. This really helps me keep from being hungry and helps to keep my weight down.

The short version of my experience and just my understanding... I'm only 5'2" and a couch potato. During 2019, I had a bad health scare and was 171 pounds. A lot for my frame. I'm an omnivore. I started calorie restriction and chose high protein and veggies. No bread, pasta, rice, or other wheat-based food. No junk. Minimal sugar or honey. I used a calorie counting app that helped me set macros for protein, carbs, and fat. Eat what you want, but stay within your calories and macros. Everything is adjustable. Have a bad day, need to celebrate, got a craving... Just restart the next day. It took me over a year because my strategy was long and slow to lose 50 pounds. Five years later, I'm still at my goal. I still use the app but have most of it memorized. Yes, I eat cookies. Homemade, so I know exactly the macro profile and calories, and I adjust my day accordingly. The point is to eat real food. Become an ingredient house as much as you can. Don't overeat. A calorie deficit is needed in the beginning. A little exercise, if you can, goes a long way.

I'm interested in what Ultra Berberine is. I also carry weight and lack motivation and energy to exercise. I need to lose weight since my operation. Any advice would be gratefully received.
