Has anyone developed an umbilical hernia after a colostomy? I did, and it hurts. Most likely, I will have to have surgery.

I had one before surgery. Very common. Mesh was used to repair mine.

So sorry. Have you talked to the surgeon?

Meetanostomate has been a great avenue and resource to meet new people with the same challenges, fall in love, fall out of love but most of all fall out of loneliness that comes with self-doubt…

We just saw him on Tuesday. Since my colostomy was an emergency one, we didn't have time to follow the plan we had, which was for me to lose weight and then have the colostomy. But he had to do it right away. Now I have to have weight loss surgery, lose the weight, and then he will do the reconstruction and fix my hernia. 😕

Yes, I went through that as well, though not until my late 40s—almost 35 years after my ileostomy surgery. I noticed a fairly large lump just above my navel. Thankfully, it wasn't painful, but I could press it back in, which was a little unsettling. Eventually, I needed another surgery because the first repair with mesh didn't hold. It was a bit of a journey. If you have any questions, holler back at me.
