Hi everyone - last colonoscopy I had a lot of, I think the medical term is, gunk up high so the doc couldn't do a thorough exam. So we re-booked and now they want me to do the normal day before clear liquids prep, no food after whatever time. They want me there 2 hours early to give me the GoLytely through the second hole in my loop ileo.

My concern is the ostomy nurse, who I am told is excellent, but she is new to me and had to ask how to prep for someone with my circumstances. Has anyone else had this? Is it common and the norm for someone with buildup? Also, I can't do self-enemas because of a hole inside near the end of my digestive tract. I really believe in my colonoscopy doc (who is the one to tell me of my stage 3 cancer and also tell me I WILL beat it, which WE did) and this nurse went so far out of her way to help me I feel silly doubting this.

Dehydration seems to be the #1 risk, but I will be under their care and prepped and monitored for it. I want to look forward to this, without having to drink that horror, but I have more questions than answers.

I don't think this procedure is common. But that could be a good thing. I'm sitting back now and waiting to see what others say.

I just finished reading the Ostomy Tips Book under COLLECTIONS at the top of the page. I did not realize how much information was there. It covers a lot

of things that people have questions about. Hope this may answer some things for people. Best wishes and stay safe

Get the prep in orange flavor, and it actually is palatable.
I also get really big bags for when I have a colonoscopy; it makes life easier. The company will no doubt send you a couple of sample bags.

Not sure I understand completely, but I took SurePrep pills and did not drink the liquid form. It costs extra, but GoodRx has coupons when you check out at Walgreens.

Yes, I absolutely did, and that goes lightly. I'm allergic to it; it doesn't work for me, so this time they gave me some tablets, and they work magic. Just take them with a couple of glasses of water. Take two more, drink a couple of glasses of water, and boy, does it move you out! No, don't drink that other stuff. They are called Sue SUB tabs.
