I had proctocolectomy and APR surgery last May. It's been three months since the surgery, and suddenly I've been experiencing intense stomach pain and a strong feeling to poop. It's very distressing, and it seems to be getting worse. I had an MRI and some blood work, and they both came back normal. I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory and anti-spasm medication, but they're not helping at all.

Go sit on the toilet like you used to and push until the sensation goes away.

Despite the normal MRI and blood work, obviously something is wrong. I would be thinking about getting a second opinion. I hope you can find out what's going on. Good luck.

It was reassuring to have the results come back normal. The main thing they were looking for in the MRI was to make sure there was no fluid building up inside from having my anus removed. Luckily, there was not. Normal blood showed there was no infection or inflammation. I think it's nerve or muscle-related from them being cut and need time to regrow. The only thing that helps me is Ativan at the moment.

Thanks for the reply, I do not have a J pouch. I had an ARP, they removed both my rectum and anus. I've heard of tenesmus I'll mention that to my doctor. I was told many times your going to sometimes feel you need to poop, but it's phantom and will eventually go away. I'm hoping these aches pains and urges will go away eventually.
