I'm getting bored of cauliflower and broccoli and am looking for some new foods to try. It's hard when it comes to veggies because while there are a lot out there they all affect people differently. I can eat canned beets and pealed cooked zucchini. But not canned carrots. I am wondering about canned lentil soup. Anyone with an ileo try lentil soup from a can? Like Progresso. What about turnips? Are they nasty? I can't do sweet potatoes because they cause pancaking issues. Same with squash. anyone have any suggestions? Maybe a friendly lettuce other than ice burg? I can't do spinach because it doesn't digest even in cooked forms like in soups. And I won't try kale because it's too much ruffage. I guess the new foods wouldn't have to be veggies but I was looking for veggies to try. Something healthy anyway.

I avoid sweet potatoes too since they thicken me up way too much. Thanksgiving got me as I couldn't resist. Overdoing it with any potatoes will get me. But I enjoy yellow squash frequently without a problem, cooked with onion or in a squash casserole. I've also had turnips without any issues, cooked to softness like boiled potatoes. Carrots are problematic unless cooked to softness, like in a crock pot meal.

After I got my ostomy I found this site and got a lifetime membership. I have had so much help from the core members, things that even the wound care nurses didn't know. If you haven't been through this journey you don't know - only the people that have experienced this first hand truly understand what your going through. The support is enormously helpful getting through this. Afterwards when you start to learn how to deal with this new normal you can begin to help others.  ...mtnman.

Try a small amount of whatever takes your fancy it's the only you will ever learn what you can and can't digest then if it were to cause a problem it should be short lived and even then if you think something has caused a problem try it again in the future as our digestive system is just like life always changing. Just for instance I could eat a raw carrot today problem free then I could eat one tomorrow and be doubled up in agony so is that a blockage or adhesions as they often take the blame for blockages.....

Eggplant 🍆 is good. Baked with tomato on top with Parmesan cheese, I like fiddleheads in the spring.

G-Day infinity,

You keep saying cans of this and cans of that, don't you cook?

Get a pack of Lentils and split peas and some carrots and other vegies that you like add some chicken and fill the pot with Chicken stock. Cook for over 1 hour and enjoy. Make a big batch and put it all into containers and freeze some of them. Job done.

Also I might add I have problems with roughage too. I used to love all kinds of salad pre surgery but found if I started craving one after I took a new approach. I put a little of everything including kale 🥬 you name it n I put no lie one to two drops max of my fav low cal or no cal dressing, a scoop of non flavored protein powder with ice in my ninja blender n turned it into a delicious smoothie so I was not missing out on any veggies 🥗 whatsoever!

*Note: if you put over 2 drops of dressing you’ll be sick because it taste like you poured the entire bottle in no lie!

There are more ways than one to eat healthy. Just think outside the box n get creative! You’ll be great!!!

Regards,
