Good afternoon,

This morning while I was cleaning up, I had some red blood. I looked it up, and it was mentioned that it is not uncommon sometimes when you are cleaning up. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thanks, Swimmer

It is common to have a little blood. The stoma is very tender. I have stoma granules that bleed all the time when changing.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, messages, and tips! So many have helped! We are learning as we go, learning the ins and outs of this bag. I have ordered special tape that does not irritate my skin and am now using Domeboro powder before putting on a new bag. My boyfriend says that my skin is so much less red!

Saw an ostomy nurse today; she said my boyfriend is doing everything right. One of my issues is that I am really thin, and my skin is really crinkly due to the surgery. We shall see how this bag goes.

This site is a real blessing. Everyone here is so awesome!

Normally, I often get some blood on tissue or a tiny trickle while cleaning the stoma, even when not being heavy-handed.

I get this all the time. The stoma is really just a mass of blood vessels waiting to burst.

My ostomy nurse once told me that your stoma is very vascular, so if you aren't super gentle with it, then yes, it will bleed, but not profusely. A little blood is not a bad thing. If you see a lot of it, then you are cleaning too rough, and you need to take more care.

No blood at all, but thanks for asking this so we won't be alarmed if or when there is.
