Home from four days in the hospital after my stomach reversal. Thankful for life, health, and home. Disappointed, though, that the reconnection did not pass the stress test. They gave me an ileostomy in the same spot. Three more months until the next surgery. The emotional toll of being in the hospital was huge for me the first time around, so being home reminds me of what I have already been through and what I can survive.

G-Day Dianamkruger,

Why did you have a reversal at first? And what did they say about putting it back in the same place?

I hope you're feeling better each day, sending good vibes your way to help.

Regards, IGGIE

Thank you so much, bigal1579. I think I will wait awhile on the cherries and sauerkraut. LOL. I have gotten some good advice. Thanks to all that have replied. I sure am happy that I stumbled onto this website.

I am happy to be alive, and that is what you should be thankful for. I had no choice when I had my surgery, and it is permanent. I don't think I would want to go through another surgery ever to reverse it. I had a colostomy, and maybe that is different from yours. Mine is not reversible. Just keep praying.

Hello Diana

Welcome from Oz 🇦🇺

Yes, that is disappointing, but as you say, you are prepared this time.

Diana,

Your situation could be much different. Sadly, earlier this month, I lost an aunt during a reversal. During the operation, something happened, possibly a new perforation; I'm unsure yet, and they ended up putting a new ostomy on the opposite side. They had her sedated and never knew this outcome. Her kidneys were failing, and she was on dialysis until there was no hope.

Count your blessings.

Sad to hear. Many of us get lots of surgeries, and we can get "used" to waking up. I've had more than 10. Every surgery has risks. And the sicker you are, the older you are... the riskier it is. After my colostomy surgery, I decided, "That's it." I refused reversal and walked away a winner.

A reversal was never an option for me, but I can understand you being upset and hurt. Take one small step at a time and be easy on yourself, although we all know that's easier said than done. Three months feels like a lifetime away at the minute, but it will soon pass by. You will get through it and out the other side. Talking is the best therapy; it can be easier to talk to people you can't see. Keep on talking; there's always someone here to listen to you.

I agree, I had no choice with my colostomy, but I did have the choice of reversal, which I refused.

Get well soon, Diana xxx
