Do you still have consitpation when you have bag and gas and if so how do you deal with it

I did when I first came out of hospital, a change of water always does this to me. I quickly started taking just 1 sachet of CosmoCol per day so that output is like a paste. Occasionally it goes the other way, then I will stop the CosmoCol for a couple of days and have Dioralyte instead, replenishing essential body salts. Then I go back onto the CosmoCol. If you are taking pain relief medication, especially Codeine, this slows down your gut so this can make you constipated.

You are so right.  I will never forget this website and the people who have helped me.  I had my reversal in January of 2014.  I try and come on this website weekly to see if I can help or encourage other individuals get through the day-to-day process of life.

Hi. I'm on life long v strong pain meds and have suffered with chronic constipation for many years. Had my ileostomy this Feb.. since then I don't think that my meds affect my output AS much as before.. out out this way, I'm way happier now than I was when I used to spend hours sat on the loo passing out while trying not to rupture things downstairs..

Best wishes

Tony

Hi Virginia, We would need to know more to give you a good answer. What kind of ostomy do you have? Do you still have your colon, or part of it? If you have a colostomy and still have your colon, was constipation a problem for you prior to surgery? If so, it's unlikely that would change. It's far less common to have constipation with an ileostomy, but can happen due to diet, medication, or insufficient hydration. Please elaborate more.
