Lately, I've been reading old MaO posts.

Mostly from the last 9 years. It's interesting reading. Years before I ever dreamed I would have a colostomy, and participate on Social Media like MaO.

I would guess, at least 98% of the Ostemates from the past, are no longer active on MaO. Even many who asked for advice or help... never responded after that one post.

To me, it's a reflection of the transitory nature of our human world.

Friends come and go. Marriages break apart. Companies rise up, then fail. Youth becomes old and frail. What's new is soon enough obsolete. 8 track tape anyone?

Permanence, is nothing more than a mirage.

Many have just moved on with their lives..and only post when they have a problem. Others just like to share and advise..this site needs old and new members of different ages. I still learn from this site..as an old timer.

To me this is a good sign ...not being hyperfocued on your stoma.

Short review. MAOM has helped me feel better by helping others it made me feel useful, worthy, important. It took my depression away. The more you use the site the more you get out of it.

You are right about the transitory nature of this world, but many on these pages struggle against serious issues and it is amazing how well they face up to them. Some were stationed in the transit lounge anyway and may have sadly passed away or not in a position healthwise to post anymore. Best wishes.

It's one of the more profound realizations that struck me as I was growing up..... nothing is permanent.

When I was young, like countless others, never gave a second thought that I would be old someday. Yet, here I am.
