The skin around my stoma is blue/black and painful. The outer skin is a little red and itchy.  The stoma itself is red and healthy with a small amount of bleeding.  My urine is a very dark color with a bad odor.  Also my pouch and my night-time bag are turning purple inside.  No fever but VERY nauseated.  This wakes me up at night.  Also, the side with stoma looks like it is bulging out.  Any ideas what might be going on and should I see a doctor and if so, what questions should I ask. Thanks for any help.

Hi there , I  have a Urostomy , but never had the complications you mention. Yes I would see my doctor . I'm not a medical person , but sounds like a slight kidney infection & the bulging could be a peristomal hernia . I believe all these things can be managed quite well with some medical attenion. I am about 60% deaf in my right ear due to a teenage infection whilst swimming. I wanted to join the Royal Navy at age 17 , but they would not have me as my hearing perception wasnt high enough. Good luck & keep us posted !!

I began my Urostomy life February 27th, 2023...a month and a half ago. I stumbled upon this site from another on Youtube and website called VeganOstomy and between that site and this one, most of my fear and worry of not having any answers other than calling the Dr's office recording menu and hoping to hear back in the next day or two for an answer to leaks, skin irritations etc, or just feeling alone and the "no one understands" thoughts I had to look forward to in my mind were all put to rest by these two websites and the community here at MaO!! I have been here for a few weeks now, and the help and support offered by the members here is just amazing!! The information and support is absolutely priceless for anyone recently out of their surgery and have tons of questions or had it for years...sit down...have a good read and you will see for yourself!!

I would also see my doctor - sounds like something is up and you probably can catch it early if you see your doctor soon...

Hi there,

I also have a Urostomy and also think you should see doctor for sure! You could be getting a blockage, stone, or bad infection. Anyway it is always better safe than sorry! Good luck!

[[My urine is a very dark color with a bad odor.]]

I'm no doc- but this sounds liek when I get kidney stones- dark urine, and it has bad odor- urinate into a glass jar, look for 'sediment' whicbh will likely be a reddish color- if you see htis, you can assume you hasve a kidney stone, as the 'sediment' will be bits and pieces of the stone (it looks like sand- only reddish in color) I find that when I get the sediment is usually in afternnoon for some reason- never in mornin g, or later at night- but try to collect and examien hte urine a coupel of times just to see if ny sediment is present

See your doc abotu hte purplish pouch and nauea- it might indicate stomach bleeding- (usually the output in pouch will be amost black in color)- also The skin around stoma shouldn't be dark liek that0- it's tiem you saw your doc just to be sure
