Have not been on this site for awhile. Had a successful reversal surgery over a year ago. All went well and am back to normal. Thanks to all for the prayers and support.

Congrats on your surgery going well. I am scheduled to have a reversal in may. I am very nervous since I almost died when this happened in Oct. I am going to stay positive though.

Have a great day,

MeetAnOstoMate website turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I say this because, for me, this ostomy journey was a devastating event both physically and mentally.
Here, I found folks who understood my feelings even better than my family or friends could. Only a fellow ostomate can understand how you really feel.

Information sharing is key, as well as support and understanding, to ultimately bring more harmony into our ostomy life journey. I found here, virtually no ostomy questions that are not touched upon. Questions which some might feel, may be too trivial to contact a doctor about or even too shy or embarrassed to ask their own doctor about. They are all addressed here.

For me, anonymity was very helpful in seeking answers to each phase of this life changing medical and mental event. Sharing initial trauma feelings, ongoing support and finally acceptance was what I found with my membership here. I am not sure what my mental and physical attitude would be today without having found this site.

Additional benefits included: finding products and ideas to help with daily maintenance, innovative ideas and as a bonus - some great humor.
After all “laughter IS the best medicine”.

I have been a member for 3 years, an ostomate for 4 years - yes, I certainly wish I would have found it immediately after surgery but so very thankful I finally found it when I did as I truly believe it turned my troubled depression and situation into a more positive attitude and acceptance.

Sincerely,
An Ileostomate nicknamed Justbreathe 🫶🏼

So happy for you.  Thanks for letting us know.  Success stories don't get posted as often as they occur, I'm afraid, for various reasons.

Great to hear!  I am nervous about reversal with an appt may 2 with colonoscopy and decision on if I am ready, if I am the reversal will take place may3.  Nervous due to all complications on original surgery.  Can't help but wonder what is the stoma area like after reversal?  Any thoughts on whole process of reversal appreciated.   Also will need to flush for the colonoscopy.  Advice?   I imagine its messy.

I also had complications and nearly died from acute diverticulitis. Was in the hospital for a month. Used the colostomy bag for 6 months and then my doctor had me do a test to determine if I healed enough to have the reversal. The flush wasn't too bad. The test in the hospital was pretty uncomfortable. In my case a ballon was inserted into my anus and filled with liquid and a camera to check healing and strength. It was hard to hold the ballon in while pictures were taken but I did do it knowing it was necessary to assure I was ready. Not sure if you will have the same test. Anyway I was good to go thank God and had my reversal 2 weeks later. Was hospitalized 3 days and had first normal bowel movement 2 days after being released. Stay near a bathroom. My hernia around my stoma was also repaired and I only have a 3 inch scar line where the stoma was. You, myself, and many others on this sight have been thru so much. The reversal was much less complicated and the healing was far quicker than original colostomy. Keep positive! It's going to go well for you. Hang in there and please keep me/us posted. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You can do it!!
