Is this just me!? I find about 30 minutes after changing illesostomy  appliance,  i desperately need the loo.  If i know i am travelling then i have to change the night before.  Otherwise it becomes a wild cross eyed  - cross legged  search for a toilet.  . . not helpful when im driving.  Lol! ?. Does this happen more to us ladies?  Do any men suffer?  Or is it just me being special!  Any tips ..if its not just me ...for those times i can't plan in advance?

I don't know if this is part of your problem but I have to change after a long period of not eating or it will leak.

Hello and welcome to meet an ostomate. The site charges a fee only for Full Membership, you can still interact with members here via the forums and the public chat room with free membership. The site charges a fee since it has expenses ... as do all websites, people have to spend their time to run and maintain the site, buy bandwith, servers, and other things. I am a life member here, it cost me 56$....about the price of 1 cup of coffee a week for a year. I think that is a very small charge for such a big reward. In my opinion this site is the best ostomy-related web site on the net. I hope you will stick around awhile and see for yourself. I do not own or am I in any manner connected to this site except as a member. regards. mmsh

Hi Dazer,  My ileostomy has a mind of its own.  I can plan all I want, do the same thing every day and some days production is typical and other days not.  When I keep myself on schedule, I can usually predict when I need to find or use a bathroom.  I am on the road most days so I schedule in bathroom pitstops.  When I change the entire appliance, I try to do the task in the morning before I leave for work.  Weekends it really does not matter because I have time.  I still can't do the change in less than 15 minutes.  Some on this site are fast.... 5 - 10 minutes...wow.  I keep trying to beat my record:) I also find mornings are calmer and slower...but not always.  Every now and then my ostomy surprises me with a wake up call.  When I know in advance that my day will be hectic, I won't eat much after my huge breakfast.  I am a breakfast eater... I usually have an egg, toast, sausage, juice, two cups of regular tea (my family is from England...we love our hot tea) and 1 cup of herbal caffeine free tea to get me started.  I find that my stoma remains somewhat quiet until I return home.  I do try and keep very hydrated throughout the day.  Lots of water ...not gallons just 16 - 20 ozs.  I also drink water throughout the night.  When I get up around 3 -4 am, I drink a few mouthfuls.  If I need to get up again, I get up and go to the bathroom.   LH
