Acouple of nights ago I let my wife's lap dog in my bedroom, well this little creature is half Shitsu and half Boston Terrier. He normally sleeps right under my bed on an old towel. About three in the morning I awoke wheasing like a pipe organ. The stench was beyond comparision. When I change my bag I place in to a small garbage bag, double tie the not and put it in the large black garbage bag. I set up in bed and when I turned the lamp on I could see somthing inside the black bag. I looked to my left and saw a pool of poop about four feet round. This thing had tipped over the garbage can and was eating a buffet of food from inside. I gave him a little attitude adjustment and sent him on his way to the living room. About two hours later I finally cleand the floor with bleach and FreeBreeze. I learned another lesson, don't let dogs near your poop.

Hello Hawk.

Thanks for your post.  It's interesting to read about experiences such as this.

I firmly believed that there was no smell emanating from my stoma. However, we had a visitor at the weekend who brought her 3 dogs.

One of them persisted in 'nosing' my stoma  until I started to think that maybe it does give off a smell that I cannot detect.

I am aware that dogs have a much more powerful sense of smell than humans but having a dog 'point out' the stoma in such an obvious way could have been a bit embarrassing if it had not been within the confines of my own home.

Perhaps the lesson here is not to let dogs near your stoma (or your poo!)

Best wishes

Bill

Nervous but excited about tomorrow. I have been reading some of the threads here and am brand new to the site. I am grateful to have had the ileostomy so my body had a chance to heal but am truly hoping all goes well with the operation and future.

I have a collapsed disk in my back and sleeping on it for the past 7 months because of the bag has caused me constant daily excruciating pain. I haven't slept through the night and have had so many accidents.

I am so glad I found this site. Gained so much information so I am much better prepared for what happens post operation and what worked for people diet and supplement (fiber) wise. Thank you for that.
