Hernia Surgery vs. Ostomy Support Belt: Recommendations?

Do you recommend hernia surgery?  How do you feel about wearing ostomy hernia support belt instead of having hernia surgery.

Interested in this, too. I'm glad you asked. Over 2 months ago, I developed a hernia underneath my stoma. It isn't big (yet), but still noticable to me. I went to my surgeon and he wants me yo get a CT scan to see how bad it is, then he will decide on surgery or not. In the meantime, my ostomy nurse ordered a support belt. The 6-8 days turned into about 8 weeks. When I finally got it, it did not fit. So, I still have no belt. 

Oh, get a belt as soon as you can!!  My dr. Blew me off at my 6 week appt when I told him I was pretty sure I had a hernia. Well now it’s huge. I just strap it up everyday in a back support belt I modified from Home Depot. Cut a hole in elastic for the bag. It works better than any I’ve ordered through medical company. I’m a year out from colostomynand don’t want to go through surgery again so trying to live with it. I’ve read a lot of people saying it didn’t work, or something bad happened during surgery, etc...   I’m in no hurry if I can learn to live with it. 

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a rather large hernia. My surgeon is not too concerned about it because it is easily reducible and doesn't seem to be causing any problems. I have a belt, but it is uncomfortable to wear because it is too wide. As long as it doesn't seem to be causing me any physical problems, I'm just not really interested in more surgery.

I have a slight bulge and I have been wearing my hernia belt everyday. I gives good support but I don't think they really prevent a hernia. Just have to be careful when lifting things and not too heavy.
