Inflamed skin - seeking advice!

Topic Explanation:
The forum topic is about a user seeking advice for inflamed and irritated skin around their stoma. They are experiencing redness and soreness, particularly around the wafer area, and are looking for insights and suggestions to manage the issue.

Advice and Insights:
- Seek emergency care if the skin condition is severe and not improving.
- Contact the ostomy nurse or the manufacturer for product recommendations and samples.
- Use stoma powder before applying the skin protectant wipe and change the barrier more frequently to let the skin recover.
- Consider using Nystatin cream or powder, prescribed by a physician, to soothe irritated skin.
- Try different barrier rings and consider using flanges with convexity to force the stoma out more.
- Keep the skin clean and use mild medicinal ointments like Neosporin to kill bacteria.
- Consult with a WOCN or a skin care specialist for skin prep and avoid applying antibiotics or antifungals to healthy skin.
- Use a liquid barrier wipe to protect the skin without interfering with its natural balance.
- Consider using O'Keeffe's Working Man's Hand Cream or Butt Paste to moisturize and protect the skin.
- Clean the stoma area with Head and Shoulders shampoo and use a vinegar solution to wash the skin, followed by applying Stomahesive powder and Cavilon no sting barrier film.
- Experiment with different barriers and appliances to find the right fit for your skin.
- Consider using Pepto Bismol for sore skin, as suggested by another ostomate.
- Keep the skin dry and consider using a hair dryer or small fan to aid in drying after applying a new wafer.
- Don't be afraid to ask for samples to try different barriers and products.
- Use peroxide to clean the stoma, but ensure to find the right appliance to prevent irritation.
- Consider using Sween Cream or exploring other soothing creams recommended by ostomy nurses.
- Apply Nystatin cream directly around the stoma to soothe and protect the skin.

These insights and advice aim to help manage and alleviate the user's inflamed and irritated skin around the stoma.
