Hi, I'm an 80-year-old gentleman with a 6-month-old urostomy. I cannot seem to go more than 2 days without a leak, sometimes less. What's your secret to a bulletproof seal?

Tell us a little bit about your stoma and system.

How far does your stoma stick out? If less than 3/4 of an inch, you may need a convex wafer. My own urostomy is actually recessed slightly.

Are you using a barrier ring?

Have you tried different products? This is very individual, and different products work better for different people.

Is mucus collecting at the outlet of the stoma and blocking flow? If so, you may need to use a 2-piece system so you can remove the bag and clean the area.

Are you letting the bag get too full? The weight of the bag can stress the seal. And those darn bags seem to fill in no time flat!

I'd suggest a support belt to help stabilize the wafer. That will help when the bag gets heavy.

I also use an extra adhesive/bonding cement.

I was a fly on the wall for a while, before I joined the group.  I think you will find it's a good bunch of people, who understand what you are dealing with like no one else could.  Glad you found us.
