Testing New Convex Appliances from Coloplast & Hollister

This topic is about comparing two new convex ostomy systems from Coloplast and Hollister. The person discussing these products has received samples and is planning to test them on different types of stomas: a Hollister system on a mucus fistula and a Coloplast system on an ileostomy. Here are some initial thoughts and questions they have, along with advice and insights from others:

- The Hollister system feels less sturdy compared to the Coloplast system.
- The Coloplast SenSura Click system features a locking ring that makes a "click" sound when the pouch is securely attached, which can be reassuring.
- The Coloplast wafer is round and does not have outer tape, leading to questions about whether additional tape can be applied if needed.

Questions and additional information include:

1. How long do users typically wear the Coloplast two-piece convex system before needing to change it?
2. The samples come with Velcro-closure (drainable) pouches. Are there standard open-end pouches available that fit the same flange?
3. Is anyone else using the Coloplast SenSura Click Extended Wear Extra Convexity system?

Advice and insights from others:

- Coloplast Assura & SenSura Click:
- The locking ring provides an audible "click" for secure attachment, which some prefer over Hollister’s push-fit system.
- The absence of outer tape means no adhesive residue is left on the skin, but if extra security is needed, Welland Hydro-Frame strips can be used around the flange edge.
- Typical wear time is up to 7 days for the flange when used with an Eakin Cohesive Seal/Ring, with the vented non-drainable pouch being changed daily.
- Example items include the Assura convex flange #12716 with pouch #12355.

- Hollister:
- It is perceived as less sturdy, but there is no further performance data available yet.

- Alternative systems shared by members:
- Convatec convex setup: Flange #125272 with drainable pouch #401512, offering 3-4 days of wear time.
- Convatec drainable pouch with E-Z Vent, also providing 3-4 days of wear time, though more frequent changes may be needed if skin issues occur.

- Accessory products:
- Welland Hydro-Frame: These are thin, flexible strips that act like flange-extending tape.
- Eakin Cohesive Rings: These improve the seal and extend wear time with Coloplast systems.

- Cost note:
- Vented non-drainable Coloplast pouches cost approximately $50 for 30, which is about $1.20 each.
